AliExpress phone holder joins multimeter to make a stand

I was browsing Aliexpress the other day and came across this phone holder. It appeared in the Choice tab and at the time was only AUD$2.89, although it seems to have gone up a bit since then.

I have an ANENG AN8008 multimeter. It was inexpensive and I find it quite good, but I have not been happy with the built-in stand. I decided to order the stand and see if I could make it work with the multimeter. Long story short, I got lazy and just used hot melt glue between the phone stand and the multimeter stand.

The battery cover is underneath the multimeter stand, so gluing there will still allow access to the batteries. I can use isopropyl alcohol to remove it I’ve I ever want to.

It may not work so well when not used away from a desk or bench, but I rarely do that and I do have another multimeter. Overall, I think this experiment has been a success.

If you are thinking or ordering one, just beware that the page has two types. I ordered the cheaper one. It appears to have an aluminium support, but the base and phone rest seem to be steel. I’m happy with it for the price and quality.

Update 29 March 2025

I have found the stand to work well, and I am very happy with it. However, while the method that I reported above worked well, I found another way that is even better. It was while putting batteries in a similar meter that I noticed that the stand and battery cover on the back of these meters comes apart easily in separate pieces.

I have now left the stand part off and hotmelt glued the phone stand directly to the battery holder (while it was attached to the meter), ensuring the glue only went on the battery cover. There are slots in the phone stand and the battery cover screw is accessible through the slots. This will make changing the batteries simple while making the attachment to the stand more robust.
