While collecting batteries to send to recycling, I found these two that I had pulled out of an old Sharp calculator. The calculator was given to me many years ago. I think it would have been made in the ’70s.

I had forgotten that Eveready batteries looked like this. I was surprised that one is marked as made in Australia. I wasn’t aware that batteries had been made here. I found this page in the Radio Museum that has some information. It seems they stopped in 1985. I thought the batteries were identical, but looking closer at the other one it has “Made in the Philippines”.

I checked to see if they had any power left. The one made in Australia showed 0.42V with no load, and the other 1.45V. I tried the second one in an LED torch that works with fairly flat batteries, but I didn’t get a glimmer of light.
I did a quick check on ebay and I found that used ones come up for sale. They don’t go for much, but that’s not surprising.
