I’ve never been one to maintain a consistent blogging schedule. Blogging has just been something I do when I can push myself to do it.
A change in circumstances
A couple of weeks ago I worked what I expect was my last day as an employee. I’m currently on extended leave and have no desire to return. Blogging is something I would like to do more of. While it doesn’t come easy, I do enjoy the satisfaction after releasing a post.
I’ve maintained a workload of at least 35 hours per week since leaving school over 40 years ago. Like many, I’ve spent most of my life living to other people’s schedules and doing what others want. It’s new territory for me, so I really don’t have much idea how I will fare, including how my blogging goes.
Isn’t blogging dead?
I have seen a lot of comments that say that it is and from my experience it does seem that personal blogging has declined, probably in favour of more mainstream social media. I have a wide range of interests and have been looking for more blogs to follow but I am finding it difficult. I don’t know if tags are not being regularly used, or if I’m searching for the wrong ones or if there really are very few blogs left.
I’m planning to continue. While video content has gained in popularity. I did experiment with creating videos a few years ago and discovered the substantial level of skill and time investment it demanded. I gained a greater respect for the YouTubers I follow. While I watch a lot, it’s not the platform for me to post content. I find blog posts easier to write and importantly to edit. It’s also reasonably easy to take a few pics to include in a blog post and doesn’t impinge on project making too much.
Topics for blogging
Most of the posts I have done are about some project I have tried. I want to continue with those, but I’m also thinking of covering other topics. We spend at least an hour working in our garden most days and I am thinking of things that others may find interesting about that. We are intending to do some travelling so I may include some posts about that. I also may just do some about random thoughts.
While I have not made a lot of posts, there have been a few that get regular hits. Batch processing files with Audacity is my most popular post. It has had 8183 views. That’s almost a quarter of all views this blog has had. There have been a few others that together make up most of the views. There are plenty of posts that have only had a handful of views. I’m not concerned, I don’t may any money from the blog, in fact I have to pay hosting, so it does cost a small amount to run each year.
My aim is to make content that is helpful, interesting or entertaining. I hope you will hang around for a while longer and wish you a great 2024.
